The motor speech disorder known as ‘childhood apraxia of speech’ (CAS) can afflict children as they learn to speak. This psychology course takes you through the causes, characteristics and symptoms of apraxia to show you how to assess and diagnose the disorder. We compare CAS to speech delay and discuss the role of speech therapy. We then move on to dysarthria, a slurring of speech caused by brain or nerve damage that affects the vocal muscles.
