Parental care is viewed as one of the most important factors affecting the mental health of children. This child psychology course discusses the important role played by families that include both parents in driving early childhood development. We explain how physically and emotionally absent parents can affect their children for their entire lives. We outline the impact of neglect of children and highlight different forms of child abuse.
