This special educational needs (SEN) course covers autism spectrum disorder (ASD). We discuss autism’s nature, causes and prevalence. We go through the characteristics of autism and explain how to help children acquire new skills and manage obsessive behavior. We also outline the benefits of using music as a tool for teaching and therapy, particularly for children with ASD, and describe the impact of music therapy on children with special needs.
